A Secretary’s Cinderella Story
There once was a solitary secretary whose job began daily at 5:20 am as the districts’ substitute caller. Although she worked the same hours as the other secretaries, it was deemed her responsibility to find substitutes for faculty and support staff calling off at the three buildings in the district.
Throughout each evening and until she went to bed, she would check the answering machine to see who would not be at school the next day. And very early each morning she would see who else would not be in. She listened day after day to the many reasons why a person would not be in school. Each call had become to her as the ugly step-sisters had been dreaded by Cinderella.
She began to make call after call after call begging to find a human to take the place of the absent employees. The competition for subs from other schools at times made this task impossible!
Then one day, the distressed secretary went to her principal and asked if there might be a “Prince Charming” to rescue her! The principal gave her permission to seek, and Secretary Cinderella began her uncertain quest to find a prince to save her.
Well, the secretary called and talked, and called and talked to many who claimed to be the Knight in Shining Armor she sought, however, they came at quite a steep price. Alas, her only hope would be her fairy godmother. Her fairy godmother, the internet, helped to narrow the choices to the right Prince Charming!
